My eyes widen when a reporter shoves a microphone in Gerald’s face. “Mr. Welder, my sources tell me that you’re relocating from the New York Office to San Diego. Does this demotion have anything to do with the derailed transaction?”

Gerald brushes his hand over his fire-engine-red face and says, “Larry, I told you when I was in Santa Barbara at the shareholders meeting in July that I left the office in Greenwich Village for personal reasons. So why are you asking me this bogus question?”

“With all due respect, Mr. Welder, you have me mixed up with another reporter.”

“No, I don’t. Were you not staking out the Biltmore on Sunday July 10th? I remember that day quite well because it was my birthday. I had a suite there, and you and a bunch of your colleagues commandeered me while I was leaving my room.”
